Go Capture · Wildlife-spotting game, our own product

A wildlife-spotting game for South African game drives

A wildlife-spotting game for South African game drives. Players log the animals they see, collect species by rarity tier, earn points and titles, and compete on leaderboards and in private group games.

Friends on a game drive, logging a sighting in Go Capture

The brief

A rebuild of Go Capture, a WordPress wildlife collecting game that ran from 2018 until its domain lapsed in 2022. The new version is a native app: log a sighting with or without a photo, choose who can see it, and play games with a car, a family or a school. Sensitive species such as rhinos had to stay off the public map.

What we did

  • Flutter app for iPhone, iPad and Android with offline-first capture that syncs when signal returns
  • A catalogue of 1,746 Southern African species in five rarity tiers worth 1 to 16 points
  • Leaderboards by place, animal group and period, plus private group games for a drive, a weekend or a school year
  • A public sightings map that withholds rhinos, pangolins and other sensitive species
  • Recovered the original game's database and photos from a 2022 backup and built an import into the new app

The result

Published on the South African App Store in November 2026 and on Google Play.
