SARS deadlines, tax answers and Xero figures in one app
TaxCompass is a tax compliance app for South African individuals and small businesses. It builds a personal calendar of SARS deadlines, answers tax questions with an AI assistant and shows Xero figures next to what is due.
The brief
Freelancers and small business owners find it hard to keep track of VAT, PAYE, provisional tax and other SARS deadlines. TaxCompass turns a short profile into a calendar of every obligation, with reminders and tasks for each filing. Free calculators and plain-English tax guides bring in visitors from search.
What we did
- Product design, brand and public website
- A rules engine that turns a tax profile into SARS deadlines, with 12 rules covering VAT, income tax, provisional tax and PAYE
- An AI tax assistant on Anthropic Claude that runs calculations and can create tasks and calendar events
- A Xero connection, built on a layer that can support other accounting systems later
- Seven free tax calculators and 12 tax guides for search traffic

The result
Live at taxcompass.co.za. First built and deployed in February 2026, with the public pages refreshed in September 2026. The public site has seven free calculators and 12 tax guides. Inside the app there are 17 built-in tax and finance calculations, Google sign-in and a Xero connection.
